Demagog.SK factchecks politicians in Slovakia for over 10 years. During this time and despite our best efforts, disinformation has become a key challenge of our society. We believe that confronting the claims made by politicians with facts is vital for democracy.
We offer young people a chance to participate in a factchecking training programme. 12 participants receive initial training in factchecking, followed by 12-week hands-on experience in researching up-to-date, real-world data and claims made by politicians in TV debates, interviews or on social media. They are given continuous guidance and feedback from our junior and senior analysts, as well as three workshops in Advanced Critical Thinking, Journalistic Writing, and Open Source Data Gathering and Analysis.
The outcome of the factcheck is published on our website www.demagog.sk and shared on social media, which gives it a significant reach and impact on public debate. The participants of the programme can see how their own work directly contributes to fighting disinformation.
In order to reach a wider audience, we offer workshops in Basics of Critical Thinking, to high schools and youth organisations, and organise three online workshops tailored to the needs and expectations of the audience, focusing on regions in Slovakia endangered by extremism.
