Project analyses the manner of appointing the representatives of municipalities in statutory and supervisory bodies of municipal firms and the possibilities of internal and public supervision.
Municipal firms suffer from a lack of supervision by public and by local councillors, which leads to political trafficking and appointment of party nominees to crucial executive positions. The project gathers data from 50 Slovak municipalities, analyses the manner of appointing the municipal nominees to statutory and supervisory bodies of municipal firms and the possibilities of internal and public supervision of the firms. The discoveries of the project will be published and a new model of functioning of the firms will be proposed, so that local councils are able to supervise the operation of the firms and professional managers manage the firms in compliance with the public interest. This new model will be firstly implemented and tested in two Slovak municipalities. Local councillors from all Slovak municipalities will have an access to created know-how and will be able to introduce the model in their municipalities.
